Rotary gets warm welcome from "A" school
Plymouth, Minn. (January 31, 2012 – courtesy Robbinsdale Area Schools) – The Golden Valley Rotary and Robbinsdale Armstrong High School have decades of history together, but this time the Rotary took it to a new level. In years past, the Rotary has brought students from Armstrong to the Golden Valley Country Club to participate in meetings to help the students gain a better perspective of where volunteers come from, who they are, and why they devote their time, resources and scholarships to Armstrong participants. On January 31, however, the Golden Valley Rotary brought their entire membership, not just the volunteers, to Armstrong to meet the students in Armstrong’s “A” School, an in-school student choice alternative program for students who have the determination to graduate from high school, but for whom a regular classroom setting is not working.
The entire Golden Valley Rotary was able to see the “A” School in action, learn more about the organization and operations of the “A” School, and the value of the “A” School experience from students. The Rotary has a program called STRIVE: Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education, which partners with the “A” School. The membership has recently committed to increase their level of support for both the “A” School program and the STRIVE program, along with additional future scholarships for students.
