Pot o’ Gold for Polio
Mar 05, 2019
Since 1988, we’ve seen a worldwide reduction in polio cases of 99.9%. For more than two years, we’ve seen wild polio cases in only two countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Following the lead of Rotary International, District 5950's efforts in raising funds for polio eradication have centered on the clubs rather than individual Rotarians. Each club is asked to commit to giving $1,500 which would result in $94,500 raised as a district. Tim Mulcrone has been the District's PolioPlus chair for several years, and has done a fantastic job! Tim has spoken at numerous clubs (not just in District 5950) on the cause about which he is most passionate, having seen polio affect his own family. There is practically nothing he won’t do to raise money to finally eradicate this disease. He has made our district a very successful participant in this historic effort. Rotary is an international community that brings together leaders who step up to take on the world’s toughest challenges, locally and globally. The eradication of polio is one of our longest standing and most significant efforts. Along with our partners, we have helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children against polio in 122 countries. We have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide and we won't stop until we end the disease for good. Rotary District 5950 Polio Chair Tim Mulcrone has arranged for special guest Leprechaun Ferguson Mcduffy’s presentation on the search for his “Pot o' Gold for Polio.” |

Karyn has seen first-hand that the power of the collective JA effort - to help youth dream about opportunities that they have not been exposed to within their current sphere of influence - helps them understand and conceptualize a future for themselves that can be anything they want it to be. JA is truly changing lives. Prior to joining JA, Karyn worked for ten years with the City of St. Paul Parks department at the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory.
